What Is Prompt Chaining?
Prompt chaining is running a series of AI prompts where each step's output feeds into the next step's input. Instead of asking AI to "analyze research and create a persona and write UX copy for a feature" in one massive prompt, you break it into focused steps:
- Prompt 1: Synthesize research notes into themes and pain points
- Prompt 2: Take those themes and create a data-driven persona
- Prompt 3: Use that persona to evaluate three wireframe approaches
- Prompt 4: Write UX copy for the winning approach, using the persona's language
Each step produces better output because it's focused on one task with clear input. The chain produces better overall output because each step builds on validated intermediate results.
Why Chaining Beats Single Prompts
