AI tools are assistants, not replacements. They can:

- Analyze data you provide
- Suggest approaches and considerations
- Speed up routine tasks
They cannot:
- Replace professional judgment
- Guarantee accuracy
- Understand context you haven't provided
- Take responsibility for your work product
Professional Standards and Ethics
As a finance professional, you must maintain the highest standards even when using AI tools.
Key Principles
1. Professional Skepticism Never accept AI output without verification. Always review for:
- Accuracy of facts and figures
- Appropriateness for your specific situation
- Compliance with professional standards
2. Confidentiality Be careful about what data you share with AI tools:
- Understand the tool's data retention policies
- Consider using enterprise versions with privacy protections
- Avoid sharing sensitive client information unnecessarily
3. Professional Responsibility You remain responsible for your work product:
- AI is a tool, not a delegate
- Your name and reputation are on the final deliverable
- Professional liability doesn't transfer to AI
4. Continuing Competence Using AI doesn't reduce the need for professional knowledge:
- You need expertise to verify AI outputs
- AI should enhance, not replace, your learning
- Stay current with both your profession and AI developments
Try it: a two-minute warm-up
Before you start, try one small task. It shows how the course works: you read a short case, run a prompt, and check the numbers.
The case (made up for practice):
- A design studio sends a client an invoice for 1,200 on 20 March.
- The client pays on 15 April.
- On 31 March, the studio pays April's office rent of 500 in advance.
Press Run with AI below. You may need to sign in first.
Now add this line to the end of the prompt and run it again: Put the answer in one table, with one row per method and month. Then show the total profit for both months under each method.
What a good result looks like
| Method | Month | Revenue | Expenses | Profit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Accrual | March | 1,200 | 0 | 1,200 |
| Accrual | April | 0 | 500 | -500 |
| Cash | March | 0 | 500 | -500 |
| Cash | April | 1,200 | 0 | 1,200 |
Double-check this: the total profit for the two months is 700 under both methods. The method changes the timing. It does not change the total. If the AI shows a different total, it made a mistake. Checking a total like this is a habit you will use in every lesson.
Setting Up for Success
Before You Begin
1. Access to AI Tools Ensure you have access to at least one major AI tool:
